Allotment Wednesday

A beautiful September morning for our weekly allotment session. We will be carrying on with our walks to the allotment throughout the Autumn. If you would like to get involved in a little gentle green activity in the heart of Shipley, meet us at Hive at 10am on Wednesday mornings and we will walk up to the site together.

Allotment Wednesday

Today we harvested our woad seeds. These are all from one plant grown from one of these seeds planted in March last year. We’ll be drying them out and sending some off to some other community projects, and planting some more at the allotment in November for a fresh crop of leaves to dye with next spring.

A celebration

Image

It was the final session of our project based at Lynfield Mount Hospital this week. We’ve been working there since January.

We spent the morning finishing off our collaborative textile piece, made using nature prints from the hospital garden.

Tea break was much enhanced by some leaf inspired biscuits made by a participant.

We’ve had some very positive feedback …

I’m outside a lot now, I’m much more actively noticing things. When I’m out on my bike I see things I can mention at the group. I think I’ve learnt to look in a different way.

I’d like to do more arts and crafts. It’s a big boost for me and I’ve learned that things take time and effort. I’ve learned a lot about acceptance and patience from this group.

I’ve found myself looking at the environment in a different way. I share things I see with my partner. I notice more. The course has made me notice things outside myself.

It’s been a great experience working in this setting, and co-facilitating the project with Helios Centre staff. Thanks very much to everyone involved.

Allotment workshop

Twelve of us walked up to the allotment under grey skies to do an Ecominds taster workshop in cyanotype printing.

We used the session as an opportunity for some impromptu weeding. Delicate and gone-to-seed plants make great prints.

The rain held off for just long enough.

Some lovely results. It was great to see some new faces, and to chat about the benefits of green activity.

We are planning a weaving workshop at the allotment later in the summer, for more details keep an eye on our facebook page.
